Project Description:
The current Ronald McDonald House adjacent to the BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital was built to assist in the housing needs for 73 out of town families during their child’s treatment period.
Over the years, the demand has grown beyond the existing facility’s capacity, and the wait list is unfortunately increasing with more than 500 families being turned away each year. The original house was designed for hotel style short term stays but there is also a need for longer stays that can sometimes be for over a year. RMH is planning to construct a new mass timber, multi-storey building nearby at Willow and W 33rd Avenue. The building will be specifically designed for longer stays with fully furnished integrated studios, one and two bedroom units with kitchens, laundry and storage. A number of shared amenities and outdoor spaces will be provided through out the project.
Westbourne Projects has been retained to oversee all aspects of the design and construction and we are proud to be involved with a project that provides a much-needed service to families from around the province.
Readers, please note that the renderings shown are conceptual only as the new building is still in its design stage and has not been finalized.
